What is Performance? - fac. by Somya Kautia & Gia Singh Arora

A 4 day hands-on workshop where an inflatable balloon shaped how participants moved, responded and created - the fifth edition of a workshop series by Gia Singh Arora and Somya Kautia.

16 July 2025

In this workshop, participants explored performance through a single, everyday object: the balloon. By tuning into its physical qualities - its stretch, fragility, and bounce - the group uncovered new possibilities in movement and storytelling.

Participants worked both individually and in groups, using the balloon to create gestures, movement scores, and moments of connection. The workshop included guided improvisations, collaborative tasks, and short viewings, all designed to open up playful, low-pressure ways of engaging with performance. It led to an informal showing, where participants shared what emerged when they let the balloon take the lead.

Facilitated by Somya Kautia and Gia Singh Arora
