Watching You / Watch Me - Alok Vaid Menon
An evening of poetry and performance confronting heartbreak, digital alienation, and the meaning of intimacy in a digital world.
31 March 2017
In our digital era - marked by the auto-surveillance of everyday life - where everything must be visible to be real, new forms of being, and new forms of exploitation are produced in the interaction between the URL and IRL. In this solo-performance Alok explored the sinister sides of visibility: How many Facebook likes does it take to love yourself? How many followers does it take to feel less alone? What would it mean to understand the internet - and the violence it inflicts - as real?
