Shruti Samvaad by Dr Shruti Jauhari
Dr Shruti Jauhari blended history, performance and musical theory to shed light on the intricacies of two popular Hindustani classical styles - the khayal and the thumri.
23 August 2025
The first half of the evening featured khayal - a form known for its slow unfolding and improvisation, where the artist explores the beauty of a raga through slow and fast compositions, guided by musical imagination. In the second half, the thumri arrived - a lighter, more expressive form rooted in romance and devotion.
Together, the khayal and thumri created a rich listening experience - both thoughtful and emotive.
Vocals: Dr. Shruti Jauhari
