Playground - Charu Hariharan and Vaibhav Batra
A musical meeting of traditions and technology, where classical artistry and electronic soundscapes converged. Featuring Charu Hariharan on percussion and Vaibhav Batra on synth.
10 October 2025
Playground was an improvised sonic journey where tradition collided with experimentation. A classically trained Carnatic musician and a modular synth artist stepped outside the boundaries of genre to create music in the moment, unpredictable, alive, and unrepeatable.
South Indian percussionist Charu Hariharan, celebrated for her mastery of mridangam, konnakol, and world rhythms, brought decades of classical training and a global performance practice to the stage. She met Vaibhav Batra, an experimental composer and founding member of the Dilli Improvisers Orchestra, whose modular synths and field recordings summon glitchy pulses, drones, and otherworldly textures. Together, they wove an musical landscape where rhythmic cycles conversed with electronic frequencies, where improvisation broke down rules, and sound became pure play.
