Meepao - choreographed by Surjit Nongmeikapam
Part of the Friends of Oddbird Festival 2025 lineup, this ensemble from Manipur used minimal, ritualistic movements to create a synchronistic dance, offering a message of harmony, coexistence and diversity.

Meepao was a contemporary dance performance from Manipur that transformed simple steps into a shared ritual. Dancers orbited a central bamboo, carving out their own paths while moving together in rhythm, accompanied by music. Rooted in the reality of Manipur’s many cultures and contested identities, the work became a living metaphor for harmony: distinct bodies negotiating space without disruption, sustaining balance through repetition and relation.
