About the event
The Breton bagpipe comes from the Celtic communities of northwest France. It's smaller and pitched higher than the bagpipes most people picture. It's traditionally played alongside the bombarde, a wooden wind instrument with real force behind it. built for outdoor night dances where the sound has to carry, they cut through a crowded room and keep people moving.
Matheo and Swann Guillas have spent nine years mastering this exact pairing. At Oddbird, they are bringing that Celtic wind music to an entirely different rhythmic foundation.
They are joined by Iranian percussionist Dr. Sina.F Ghaffari, playing the tombak. The tombak is the classical Persian goblet drum that underscores the bagpipe and bombarde with intricate rhythmic patterns.
This performance tests how two highly specialized musical languages communicate. It places the energetic, continuous breath of French dance music directly against the calculated drumming of Eastern traditions. Expect an evening of raw, acoustic sound…
