Oddlab: Deviant Octopus by Jasmine Yadav

A dancer transformed into a shape-shifting creature, exploring desire, shame, and the freedom of a body that refused to stay contained. Presented as part of Oddlab, where experimental works find an audience.

28 March 2026

In Deviant Octopus, dancer Jasmine Yadav invited audiences to witness the emergence of a shape-shifting creature. Through a choreography built around clothing - slipping into it, getting tangled in it, removing it - the body moved through states of exposure, concealment, fear, and release.

At the centre of the piece was a question: what happens when a body stops trying to be appropriate? As movement grew more instinctive and expansive, Jasmine's body became something unstable and alive: part human, part animal, part monster.

Oddlab was a home for experimental work at Oddbird, intended to connect artists and audiences in various stages of a piece: early life, work-in-progress sharings, and evolving practices.
