Force of Work - Humans in the Loop & Taak
A double film screening: Taak and Humans in the Loop. Set in a Delhi nightclub and a rural Jharkhand data centre, these narratives explored surveillance, autonomy, and the uneasy entanglements between labour, technology, and identity in contemporary India.
30 July 2025
Taak and Humans in the Loop were two sharply distinct yet thematically entwined films presented in collaboration with Storiculture.
Taak follows Shalini, a nightclub bouncer in Delhi, as she navigates coercive surveillance through a mandatory smartwatch policy at work. In Humans in the Loop, Nehma, an Adivasi data labeller in Jharkhand, trains AI systems while confronting the algorithmic amplification of social bias. Both films delved into questions of control, resistance, and the intimate costs of data extraction - through performances rooted in lived experience and context.
